Diesel 3 cylinder Ford engine
Reflection of Monday and Tuesday,( Keep Trying Don't Give Up) Yesterday we prepared the engine for starting we checked the compression and it was great we added coolant and aw we found a leek coming out from the lower corner of the water pump dissembled and analyzed .I found one of the gaskets, on the pump was not the correct one. We made a new one and installed it( leaked fixed. ).
Today we tried to start the engine no luck after finding out the fuel was not going into the injectors I then dissembled the fuel lines from the governor to injectors and found no fuel coming out. I then adjusted the position of delivery valve assembly fuel then gushes to the injector . after trying to start still no luck tomorrow I will start it .January 2012 total hours 103 hrs

Saturday and today I have been replacing the deck on a 12 ft trailer. I ripped the old deck off on sight at RDS, I figured why make a mess at Gary's Custom Service especially when his shop is usually filled with custom cars .Saturday turned out to be a long day from 9 am to 6;30 /9.5 hours of welding grinding and cutting and trying to make the old trailer more versatile by adding a side ramp on the passenger side and a new swinging door on the drivers side and replacing the tailgate with a longer ramp so its easier to drive onto . The day ended and we meaning Brent and I spent another 6.5 hours tryng to finish it up on Sunday .I have some more Ideas hopefully sometime this week I will add them also. I will post pictures soon .

Working in the shop . Week ending 1/28/2012
Removing the soft plugs
Installing the soft plugs on the block.
Installing the Tappets
Lubing cam and installing in the block.
Torqueing the thrust plate for the cam.
This weeks reflection.were very educational . We installed a cam in the C-6 cummins 8.3 Marine engine we have been working on although we ran into some problems with the new crankshaft. The crankshaft from overseas which was nicely packaged in a sturdy built crate. It greeted us with rust and pitting on the crankshafts machined surface. After careful microscopic analysis we determined it could shorten the life of the engine.Watch the videos and reflect on this weeks lessons.

Reflections of week ending January 14, 2012
The first video below instructor Jeff is explaining the combustion process and how the fuel ignites.
In this video Jeff is teaching me how to properly install the piston pin and retaining ring.
Proper handling instructions for installing piston rings.
Jeff explains the importance of proper tools and installation of piston rings while Raul and Ian prepare to install them on the rest of the pistons
Compression rings install.
The compression rings are marked top 1 and top 2 make sure to have markings up.Also make sure when the expander ring is installed, its open end is at 180 degrees from the open end of the oil ring it is marked black for that purpose.
On this video we are looking at the block and how it is designed to lubricate all internal parts.
Here we are taking a part off the block that is held by a plate and is sealed using a o-ring.
Tools used in the in stall of piston into the piston sleeve
Jeff teaching Raul and Ian
