Manifold Gasket Replacement hours for the Month of Febuary are 120 hours

The two twenty inch pipes below connect to the exhaust on the engine.

The picture below shows the exhaust.  Next to the exhaust is the coolant pipe.

The picture below shows the 3 compressors tied into the engine.  Each compressor has an individual arm connected to the crankshaft.

As you can see in the picture below the 6 ports of the exhaust.  Each exhaust tube weighs 8,500 lbs and has a 20" diameter.

Each one of these is a head on one side of the engine.  There is a total of 12 heads to the engine.

Below is a picture of the top of the engine block where the exhaust is placed.  Each hole is where we will be installing the new gaskets. The smaller holes you can see are for the coolant ports.

To take off the exhaust was one entire day.

Share the knowledge

My Cap 101 project was a hit , In the project I created a PowerPoint presentation of the work I have done in the shop and inserted some of the videos taken on the c6 Cummings engine assembly.I also linked it to my blog. .My intention was to make the class aware of the Diesel program and the projects I had worked on. I was  teaching  them to create a blog and store  information.straight from their smart phones.
Monday. We worked on installing main bearing caps and torqued down to specs. Ian,Chris and I met with the ASBTC Senate on Wednesday and spoke to them on the requested funds for the Denmark xchange program. Total hours for week ending 2/25  are 28 hours

shop time

Week ending 2/19/2012:  Monday Don and I worked on the install of crank shaft for the c6 /8.3 liter marine engine.  My truck had been giving me trouble when ideling, it wanted to die at times.  I pulled it in to the bay and plugged the snap on computer to it and found no codes except a transmission code.  Jeff guided me in the direction of checking the battery under load.  The battery cells were gone and I replaced the battery.  Replacing the battery solved the problem and I know now to check that first then go from there.  Above you will see 3 videos of the c6 and how to install the crank and torque procedures.  We  spent the next 3 days on installing the piston packs and research. I also fabricated a side  door for my  utility trailer and spent 8 hours on saturday finishing  the welding and painting of my trailer  for a totol of 36  hrs.
